Directions for questions 7-8: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow.
It’s sad, though unfortunately true but our small planet which is located in an insignificant outer spiral of an
absolutely average galaxy is, like millions of other heavenly bodies, regularly bombarded by cosmic debris
involving comets and meteors which have in the past led to wholesale cataclysmic obliteration of life forms.
In the greatest known extinction episode at the end of what is known as the Permian period, an era of severe
climate and geologic changes 245 million years ago, 96 per cent of all marine species and more than 50 per cent
of all other species disappeared. Another period of rapid extinction, 65 million years ago, is famous for the
disappearance of the dinosaurs when, along with them, one third of the rest of the plant and mammalian
population became extinct too.
The chances of another hit are over-ripe right now and feel-good disaster films like Deep Impact or
Armageddon notwithstanding, the severity of loss is going to be far more devastating than special effects on
computer graphics. Because this time around a casual wandering stone half the size of a Mumbai suburb
impacting with our planet will make thousands of years of art, culture, science, society, civilization, governance
and religion meaningless. This time species alone are not going to be obliterated, but specimens with brains and
consciousness are going to be wiped out in less time than it takes to think of a blink.
Ironically, if this invader is small enough to wreak devastation on a scale than can still be managed with only the
loss of a few hundred millions, we have to then face the daunting task of restructuring everything from almost
start. In the process we may also have to face the loss of long cherished icons and artifacts like maybe the Mona
Lisa, the ionosphere or the polar ice caps.
Some futures are devolvable and can be prognosticated with optimistic extras. Other futures involve ninth and
tenth generation computation to make our livelihood “smart” to the point of excellent boredom. But what does
one do with a future that’s coming on inevitably any millennia now and is about to sub-atomize our short and
convoluted existence?
7. “………..the loss of long cherished icons and artifacts like maybe the Mona Lisa, the ionosphere or the
polar ice caps”. The sentence implies that icons and artifacts :
1. are too precious to be lost.
2. are invaluable.
3. are an integral part of “our world”.
4. will be too hard to lose.
8. The “destruction” author is referring to is of:
1. Permian period.
2. entire civilization.
3. heavenly bodies.
4. our small planet.

About NAC-Tech

NAC-Tech has been conceived as an industry standard assessment and certification program to ensure the transformation of a "trainable" workforce into an "employable" workforce, hence creating a robust and continuous pipeline of talent for the IT/Engineering Industry. It is targeted at final year and pre-final year students, who will be seeking employment opportunities in the IT / Engineering sector.

The intent behind assessing these students is to identify the level of talent which is available across India, especially in Tier II and Tier III cities and provide feedback to them on areas they need to work on to improve their employability.

Conceptualization of NAC-Tech

In-depth meetings with the large recruiters in the industry were conducted to understand their recruitment practices, cause of attrition desired skills in a candidate, etc. Based on this, a job-skill matrix was developed which formed the basis for the design of this assessment program. Core and Working Committees from the industry were formed and constant interactions were made to make sure that the program was in line with the industry requirements. An evaluation committee was set up to finalize the vendors and decide on the approach to the pilot. Multi-tier evaluation of the vendors happened after the initial interaction. The identified vendors provided the content and technology to run the test. The companies that have helped develop the assessment program are - TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Cognizant and HCL.

The industry clocked export revenue of US$ 49.7 billion (excluding hardware) in FY 2009-10 registering about 5.5% growth from the previous year. The IT sector also created a little over 100,000 jobs in FY09-10, adding the total employment with the industry to around 2.3 million in the same period.
  • What role do IT companies play in NAC-Tech?
The test is developed and supported by the NAC-Tech Council comprising of companies that conduct large recruitments like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, HCL and Cognizant. The test identifies the desirable skills in fresh graduates that are essential, indicating their employability.
During the current phase and the times to come, industry will play a more crucial role in lending credibility / endorsement to the NAC-Tech and will help ensuring that this program gets differentiated amongst other similar products which are available in the market.
  • What are the skills being assessed in NAC-Tech?
Please see "NAC-Tech Test Matrix" section above
  • What is the minimum educational qualification / eligibility required to participate in the program?
Please see the eligibility criteria under the section 'Key Features of NAC-Tech'.
  • Are there any training programs / courses that one needs to attend before attempting NAC-Tech?
Since NAC-Tech encapsulates skills which are generic in nature, NASSCOM does not endorse/recommend any Training or Training Company for the preparation of NAC-Tech. However, there are very many training programs, specific to the foundation skills, which are available across the country that may be attended if found convincing by the candidate.
  • How to participate in the program and take the test?
The test will be available from August 2011 for candidates.
The candidate will be able to take the test through:
    • A state is holding the test and is inviting candidates for it A college/university/institute is holding the test for its own students
    • Independently through retail centres (information can be sought by sending a request to nactech@nasscom.in)

  • Does one need to pay for this program?
Under the first two currently-running models/approaches (as mentioned above), it may/may not require the candidate to pay for the test as this is completely at the discretion of the client organizing for the test (e.g. state / college / university / institute). However, once the retail model comes into play which will enable candidates to take the test independently, candidates will essentially will have to pay the test fee.
  • Will people have access to NAC-Tech from small / tier-II, III cities?
Retail model will surely cater to small towns/cities. However, currently, with the two above-stated approaches, these towns/cities can still be served by the organizing bodies (i.e. state / college / university / institute).
  • What is the progress on NAC-Tech initiative?
In pilot phase, NAC-Tech was conducted in 18 states across India and also with few individual colleges/universities with about 23,000+ candidates appearing for it.
To take this forward, multiple approaches will be looked into to cover the country, schedules regarding which, will be published on the NAC-Tech website time-to-time and shall also be made known to the public through various media sources.
  • Who will own this program going forward?
NASSCOM, on behalf of the industry, will continue to play the central role. However, the business & governing model of this program, in view of long term, is under consideration.
  • Whom should we contact at NASSCOM for further details?
For further details on NAC-Tech, please contact Dr. Sandhya Chintala, Senior Director (Education Initiatives) or Ms. Avneet Bajaj, Senior Manager (Education Initiatives) at nactech@nasscom.in

online survy 'Dookudu' Review

'Dookudu' Review: 'Drama'tic Magic

Film: Dookudu
Banner:
14 Reels Entertainment
Cast: Mahesh Babu, Samantha, Prakash Raj, Sonu Sood, M S Narayana, Brahmanandam
Music: S S Thaman
Dialogues: Kona Venkat
Cinematographer: K V Guhan
Editing: M R Varma
Story, screenplay, direction: Srinu Vaitla
Producers: Anil Sunkara, Achanta Ram, Achanta Gopichand
Release date: 23/09/2011

The much delayed and most awaited movie has finally arrived. It has brought Mahesh Babu along with Samantha under the direction of Srinu Vaitla. Let us take a plunge into the details.
Story:
Shankar Narayana (Prakash Raj) an honest man with ideals who does a lot for the poor. His good deeds find enemies (Kota, Supreeth, Sayaji). Shankar’s son Ajay (Mahesh Babu) grows up to be an honest and tough cop.
While the whole world thinks Shankar Narayana is dead, he is actually recovering in a hospital. Meanwhile, unaware of all this flashback Ajay sets on a mission to hunt Nayak (Sonu Sood), a dreaded mafia don. In this process, he comes across Prashanti (Samantha) and falls in love with her. Meanwhile, Shankar Narayana recovers but he is not supposed to go through any sort of stress.
For this, Ajay starts doing all sorts of things to keep him happy. The story takes a turn when Ajay discovers about the attack on his father and decides to take revenge. How does he do that? Whether he is successful or not forms the rest of the story.

Performances:
Mahesh Babu gives a powerhouse performance. His versatility in acting and emoting of various expressions is impressive. As usual, he rocks with his style and handsome looks.
Samantha looks sweet. She manages to do justice in songs and the light romance track. However, she must reduce her dose of makeup and start focusing on adding few extra pounds, that will make her double sexy.
Prakash Raj was matured as usual. Though he doesn’t have intense scenes in it, he maintains a contained act and does his bit as required.
Sonu Sood looks stylish as a villain but his characterization is not that powerful. This time, he was not able to create the required impact.
Nasser was natural, Brahmanandam was hilarious, M S Narayana was fantastic, Vennela Kishore brought few extra smiles and made his presence felt, Sonia was alright, Subbaraju made his presence felt, Kota was effective, Sayaji Shinde was standard, Aditya Menon was apt, Tanikella Bharani was elegant, Supreeth was okay. Special mention must be made of Parvathi Melton. Her item song and her oozing sex appeal is a visual delight. The others did their bit as required and added value.

Highlights:
  • Mahesh Babu’s performance
  • Brahmi, M S Narayana comedy
  • Second half
  • Parvathi Melton’s item song
Drawbacks:
  • First half
  • Length
  • Routine Vaitla formula
  • Weak romance track
  • MLA get up Mahesh Babu got wasted
Analysis:
The two names, Mahesh Babu and Srinu Vaitla, are enough to set high expectations for the film. But the best way to enjoy this film is to go with an open mind. As such, this is a typical Srinu Vaitla film and his formula and pattern is the same from start to finish.
Subba Raju’s character resembles Jaya Prakash Reddy in ‘Dhee’. Brahmanandam’s character resembles what he portrayed in ‘Ready’.
Only difference is, the commercial elements are high and for a change he has shown villains as villains and not converted them to good beings.
As usual, Vaitla relied on his strengths ie comedy and dialogues. During the first half, things are quite erratic and it is hard to connect. Many were looking at their watches for the interval bang. During the interval many gave thumbs down reactions and somewhat negative vibes.
The much hyped Mahesh Babu’s MLA get up is wasted in the film. The purpose of raising curtain for a reality show by Mahesh Babu is not at all convincing but boring. Taking the bigger risk of reality show to keep father happy is like a cock and bull story. The entertainment graph falls down suddenly due to that. Audience gets disconnected to the film at that moment for about 20 minutes. Although the purpose of that reality show is not convincing, the pattern in which it goes with other artistes brought the humor.
But second half covered up the entire thing and no one looks at the watch anymore. There are few points which are worth mentioning here:
  • When Dharmavarapu faxes a celebrity photo to the villains. All are shocked. You must watch the film to enjoy that.
  • The scene between Sonu Sood and Prakash Raj. It is a straight lift from ‘Sarkar’ scene between Amitabh Bachchan and Zakir Hussain, but a weak imitation.
  • Last twenty minutes comedy and the dialogues of Brahmi and M S Narayana
Overall, the film has the right ingredients to appeal the family audience and though most of it is expected, it is the pace and ability with which the audience is engaged and the entertainment value they get.

At the box office, with no other film in sight and the hype created, the film will be invincible.

Bottom-line: Routine Vaitla's flick

Rating: 3.25/5
